In collaboration with FMI (Foursquare Missions International) We have a Field Guide designed specifically for a short-term trip. You will find encouraging stories along with discussion points geared towards team growth and answering questions regarding your upcoming trip. Included is also a devotional journal section for your time on the field. It concludes with a debrief section. This guide and it's earlier version have been used for over 20 years with most of our short-term trips originating out of Canada.
Poverty is much more than simply a lack of material resources, and it takes much more than donations and handouts to solve it. When Helping Hurts shows how some alleviation efforts, failing to consider the complexities of poverty, have actually (and unintentionally) done more harm than good.
But it looks ahead. It encourages us to see the dignity in everyone, to empower the materially poor, and to know that we are all uniquely needy—and that God in the gospel is reconciling all things to himself.
'When Helping Hurts' can be taken as a course with your team as you prepare for your trip. It can also be read on your own as you are preparing to deploy for Short-term missions.
You can find the course on Right Now Media if you have an account.
The video offering with the book are strongly reccomended.
Language barriers can make a short-term trip challenging for your team. Many of our teams have partnered with this ministry and become very effective on the field. Their resources are excellent and they will even bring a trainer to you for a small fee. Your team can alternatively take one of their workshops if the timing works out.
